Irene Tobias joins SHRL as Emergency & Risk Management Program Manager

Irene Tobias has joined the Student Housing and Residential Life (SHRL) team as the Emergency & Risk Management Program Manager.

In this role, Irene will be responsible for projects, programs, and trainings related to access, safety, emergency management, and risk management within Student Housing & Residential Life. She will develop and update department emergency plans under university standards and policies. Additionally, Irene will assist in responding to campus emergencies when needed in coordination with other departments.

Originally from Houston, Irene, graduated from the University of Houston-Downtown with a Bachelor of Science in engineering technology safety and fire protection and a Bachelor of Science in engineering technology structural analysis and design. She also earned her Master of Public Administration in fire and emergency services.

Most recently, Irene served as the Communications Captain in the Office of Emergency Communications for the Houston Fire Department, where she provided critical support to emergency management and operations personnel. She also worked several other positions for the Houston Fire Department over the past 27 years.
