PTSD Research Virtual Reality for PTSD

PTSD Research

VR exposure therapy has been used for the treatment of PTSD. The first VR environment specifically designed for soldiers was Virtual Vietnam (Virtually Better, Inc.).

In early 2006, Virtually Better, Inc. and UCLA - Institute for Creative Technologies (ICT) under a grant from the US Navy (ONR) developed the first VR environment to treat soldiers returning from duty in Iraq.  Virtual Iraq is a state of the art program designed to provide realistic exposure to combat related stimuli (Walking on tour Bagdad or riding in Hummer across the Iraq desert).

Dr. Bordnick is a consultant on the ONR project, and the VRCRC is seeking collaborations for basic assessment research and treatment using this environment.
