C-REP Goals and Objectives

The overall goal of the collaborative Cancer Research Education Program (C-REP) between the University of Houston (UH) and the NCI-designated Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center (DLDCCC) at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is to proactively address a significant deficiency by encouraging and preparing underrepresented (UR) undergraduate and graduate students to enter careers in cancer research.

Alliance partners will accomplish this by providing cancer research experiences, developing cancer specific curricula, and creating educational outreach efforts to encourage UR trainees to select careers in cancer research. Through C-REP, the Alliance will establish the critical infrastructure needed to support a long-term sustained effort for increasing the pipeline of UR trainees in cancer research and bolster submission of future training grants at the institutional level, and fellowship/career development grants at the trainee level.

These goals will be achieved through completion of the following objectives/aims:

  • Enhance the cancer research experience of undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Develop new cancer research curricula and seminar series.
  • Prepare culturally diverse and health disparity aware cancer researchers.
