AARP Tax Assistance

  • Location: George Memorial Branch Library: 1001 Golfview Drive Richmond, Texas 77469
Representatives from AARP will assist in the preparation of income tax returns by appointment only. Please schedule in person at the George Memorial Library Adult Reference Desk or by phone at 281-341-2605. Bring the following items to your appointment: photo ID; Social Security card(s) for self, spouse, and all dependents; last year's tax return; W-2, 1099s, and any other compensation received in 2022; unemployment compensation statements; and any other documents necessary to complete your return. Income tax forms are no longer available at the libraries.

Palm Sunday is a Christian holiday that occurs during Lent and marks the first day of Holy Week. It is a week before Easter Sunday.

Qingming Festival
  • Location: China, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand
A traditional Chinese festival observed by the ethnic Chinese in several countries. Occurring on the 15th day after the Spring Equinox, the holiday recognizes the traditional respect of ancestors in Chinese culture. Activities include visiting ancestor's tombs, cleaning grave sites, praying to ancestors and making ritual offerings.

Known in English as Holocaust Remembrance Day, this day in Israel commemorates the Jewish victims of the Holocaust. It occurs on the 27th of the first month of spring on the Babylonian/Hebrew calendar. Begins on sunset of the previous day and continues until nightfall.

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, a month long Muslim observation that is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Special prayers and ceremonies occur followed by a feast featuring sweet foods and dishes.

Senior Series: The Truth About Homeownership in Retirement

Senior Series is a series of conversations with local experts focused on the unique and complex housing related issues facing mature homeowners and their families. April’s topic is The Truth About Homeownership in Retirement. Liz McNeel, with Keller Williams Metropolitan and Founder of the Houston Senior Living Series will moderate a panel of experts in exploring this topic. This program is geared toward older adults and their family members. It is free and open to the public. No registration required.

Family-History Research: Records of the War of 1812

Introduction to finding War of 1812 ancestors by using a number of sources including databases, websites and military records. We will cover how and where to obtain copies of records including compiled service records and pensions from Databases such as Ancestry.com, Family Search and Fold3. We will also discuss the materials available in the Genealogy & Local History department of the George Memorial Library.

Film Screening and Panel Discussion: WAIL
