Staff Council scholarships are made possible by continuous support from the President's Office and fellow staff members.

There are several ways staff and faculty can give. By far the most popular option is payroll deduction. A modest monthly contribution can, over several years, multiply into a sizeable gift. If you prefer, you can also make a one-time gift.

To make your gift: Online at https://giving.uh.edu/gift/ and through the Pledge and Payroll Deduction form (pdf).

Helping the Community

Staff Council Community Outreach

The UH Staff Council was created in 1986 and is made up of elected staff from each of the 8 University Divisions. Its members serve as an advisory body to the President of the University and the University administration. Staff Council promotes a positive and meaningful interchange among staff, faculty, and students by providing activities, forums, and communications to improve information exchange, staff morale, and staff recognition. Staff Council programs uplift staff to fully engage in volunteerism initiatives that benefit the campus community, the Third Ward community, and communities in the wider Houston area.

Donate to the Staff Council General Fund! These funds are used throughout the year to support initiatives that benefit the UH Staff, and promote service to the Third Ward community, and the wider Houston area. In the past these have included: Staff appreciation events Spring Egg Hunt*, Tax Prep Day Workshops*, Take Your Child to Work Day, Sock and Blanket Drive*, and Thanksgiving Meals for Seniors*, and more.

Supporting Student Success

Staff Council B. Renae Milton Students of Staff Scholarship

The Staff Council B. Renae Milton Students of Staff Scholarship provides scholarship assistance to University of Houston students who are dependents of a UH staff member. Staff Council awards one $500 scholarship to a student who attends UH

This scholarship was inspired by B. Renae Milton, a UH alumna, long-term staff member, and former Staff Council Program Manager, who supported family-friendly policies and put three sons through college.

Cougar First Impressions

Cougar First Impressions (CFI) is an annual "Welcome to UH" experience sponsored by Staff Council and is held the first two days of each Fall semester. UH staff and faculty from across campus come together to help hundreds of UH students navigate campus by providing free campus maps, directions to class, pens, notebooks, frozen treats, and cold bottled water to facilitate their transition into campus life.

Since 1998, CFI has been made possible each year by generous contributions, without student fees, from various university units and community partners. Funding for CFI is used to prepare and present training for new volunteers; execute the logistics of the 2-day CFI event; and organize a luncheon for volunteers in the fall, where volunteers are recognized for their dedication, leadership and accomplishments.
