Jerrell Sherman, Ed.D. Associate Dean of Students

Dr. Jerrell Sherman joined the Dean of Students Office at the University of Houston in July 2022 as an Associate Dean of Students. Dr. Sherman supports the Dean of Students Office by managing the day-to-day functions of the office, overseeing Parent & Family Programs, Commuter Student Services, Student Advocacy & Support, Student Engagement, and as an appellate officer for academic honesty and athletic scholarship hearings.

Dr. Sherman holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication from Southern University and A & M College, a Master’s Degree in Advertising and Marketing Communications from Webster University, and a Doctorate in Higher Ed. Leadership from Sam Houston State University. Dr. Sherman’s research interests include Hip-Hop, student engagement, retention of students of color, and student persistence.

Before joining UH, Dr. Sherman served as Associate Dean of Students at Sam Houston State University overseeing grievances, student conduct, advocacy, and fraternity and sorority life. During his time at SHSU, Dr. Sherman was recognized with several awards by local and national student affairs organizations. Dr. Sherman has been published and presented at several professional conferences, which has led to him being a nationally recognized student affairs professional.

Dr. Sherman is most happy to be a father of two sons and a husband to his wife. His hobbies include spending time and traveling with his family, cheering for the San Francisco 49ers, watching WWE and anime, running, and learning new things.
