Alyssa Veteto, M.Ed. Assistant Dean of Students

Alyssa Veteto joined the Dean of Students Office in May 2022 as an Assistant Dean of Students. As part of her role, Ms. Veteto serves as a hearing officer within the student conduct process, assists with the approval of expressive activities on campus & alcohol distribution requests, and oversees the campus programs for minors state policy compliance. Additionally, Ms. Veteto supports the student advocacy work of the office by assisting students with concerns, providing resource referrals, and advocating for student needs.

Ms. Veteto earned a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance with a concentration in Voice from the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University in 2011 and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Higher Education Policy Studies also from SMU in 2013. Ms. Veteto's Master's Thesis focused on the professional and developmental outcomes for faculty members engaged in activities with students outside the classroom. While completing her thesis, Ms. Veteto began studying residential college and curricular models and was able to continue her research through an internship at the University of Kansas and a study abroad experience in the United Kingdom. As a lifelong learner, Ms. Veteto continues to engage in research on curricular approaches, early intervention practices, recidivism among college-aged adults, and moral & ethical development.

Prior to her role as an Assistant Dean, Ms. Veteto started her career as an Area Coordinator at Austin College in Sherman, TX. In this role, Ms. Veteto managed multiple residential facilities and served as the primary advisor for the Mentors in Violence Prevention Program, leading the sexual violence prevention & education area in Student Life. Ms. Veteto was also a state trained survivor's advocate for students experiencing domestic/dating violence and sexual assault. In 2016, Ms. Veteto joined the University of Houston community as the Residential Life Coordinator in the University Lofts with Student Housing & Residential Life. After being promoted to the Assistant Director of Residential Life in 2019, Ms. Veteto created the University of Houston's Residential Engagement Model, a curricular approach that established the learning outcomes and educational priority for Student Housing & Residential Life. Through her work, Ms. Veteto has become a nationally recognized presenter and trainer on curricular approaches and early intervention programs for student engagement and persistence. Additionally, Ms. Veteto is a 2019 graduate of The Gehring Academy through the Association of Student Conduct Administrators and was named the 2022 Mid-Level Professional of Distinction by the Southwest Association of College & University Housing Officers.

In her free time, Ms. Veteto enjoys spending time with her cat, Phoebe, playing board games, reading, bingeing the latest true crime series, and singing opera/musical theatre as often as she can!
