Ph.D. Students Eligible for Highest Level of SAS Health Analytics Academic Specialization Through Curriculum

November 3 — University of Houston College of Pharmacy Ph.D. students are now eligible for the highest level of academic specialization from leading analytical software developer SAS Institute through the college's Health Analytics and Real-World Evidence certificate program.

The Cary, N.C.-based SAS Institute (or SAS, pronounced "sass") develops and markets a suite of analytics software, which helps access, manage, analyze and report on data to aid in decision-making. SAS has now verified that the rigorous coursework provided for successful completion of Ph.D. courses in the Pharmaceutical Health Outcomes and Policy Concentration – such as Biostatistics and Experimental Design, Data Analytics, Pharmacoepidemiology, and Regression Analysis and Methods– fulfills the requirements for its Tier 3 academic specialization. 

"SAS has been the core health analytical tool in our Ph.D. program for analyzing large real-world health care data like medical claims, electronic medical records and national surveys," said Rajender R. Aparasu, Ph.D., FAPhA, Mustafa & Sanober Lokhandwala Endowed Professor and chair of the PHOP department. "Population-based health analytic tools are integrated in all our core Ph.D. courses, and our students learn and apply these tools to generate real-world evidence as part of their Ph.D. courses and dissertation work."

Along with the new designation, SAS also provides students with the option of downloading a digital badge indicating their certified status for use on their social media accounts and resume. SAS also offers a range of benefits for students, including webinars, academic discounts on products, and other resources for professional advancement.
