Computer Science Career Fair Draws 28 Companies
Students Make Career Connections
CougarCS, the computer science student organization, and the Department of Computer Science hosted the Fall 2013 Computer Science Career Fair on October 2. The event is organized in Fall and Spring by CougarCS computer science club and the Department of Computer Science.
The four-hour event, held in the Shamrock Ballroom of the Hilton University of Houston, drew 28 companies, and 170 students took advantage of the opportunity to connect with future employers.
A reception, held following the job fair, was attended by participating company representatives, Cougar CS officers, and selected faculty members from the Department of Computer Science.
Dr. Jaspal Subhlok, chair of the department, commented, “The diverse selection of potential employers underlines the need of computing graduates across the economic spectrum. Everyone I spoke to was impressed by the organization of the job fair and the quality of the students.”
Many companies expressed a desire for a broad-based relationship with the department. “We will be following up with them,” Subhlok said. “Industry plays a vital role in maintaining a high-quality, state-of-the-art curriculum in a fast moving field like computer science.”
