Computer Science Celebrates Faculty Achievements


During the final faculty meeting for FY 11, the Department of Computer Science celebrated the achievements of three  faculty members. Prof. Barbara Chapman and Dr. Chang Yun received the Computer Science Faculty Excellence awards for 2011. Prof. Jehan-Francois Paris received the “Chairperson’s Choice” award.

Prof. Barbara Chapman was recognized for her distinguished career in high-performance computing and worldwide leadership in the OpenMP community.

Dr. Chang Yun was instrumental in bringing our nascent computer gaming program to international visibility. He coached four student teams who qualified to compete in the finals of Microsoft’s Imagine Cup 2011 US Competition. University of Houston teams received 1st and 2nd place in the Game Design\Mobile competition, and the 3rd place in the Game Design\PC & Xbox.

Prof. Jehan-Francois Paris was recognized as an outstanding educator and researcher. He consistently ranks among the best instructors based on student evaluations and his impressive record includes research in Video Distribution, Peer-to-Peer Computing, and Disk Array Reliability.
