For the newest class of medical students, receiving a white coat represents more than the start of medical school. It is a milestone that recognizes the work that brought them to the College of Medicine while signaling the responsibility they will carry throughout their education and into their careers.

University of Houston launches institute to find new solutions to homelessness

Could the age of machine learning offer new tools to tackle homelessness? The University of Houston has launched the Institute for Housing, Homelessness and Health to find out. The university announced Wednesday morning that a $5 million gift from an anonymous donor will enable staff to bring together homeless service providers, professors and students to develop potential solutions, run pilots and conduct data analysis.

The University of Houston has launched the Institute for Housing, Homelessness, and Health, an ambitious new university-wide initiative under UH Health that brings together expertise in healthcare, social work, public policy, law, data science and other disciplines to help communities better understand and ultimately end homelessness.

Commencement Ceremony

The Upcoming Spring 2027 Commencement Ceremony will be Friday, May 14, 2027 at the Cullen Performance hall. The Commencement Ceremony page will be updated as information becomes available.

2026 Preceptor Faculty Development Conference

This conference is designed to support clinical educators in enhancing their teaching and mentorship of medical learners. Throughout the day, participants will engage in focused sessions and collaborative discussions, exploring effective strategies for learner engagement, feedback, and assessment in clinical settings. The schedule also provides dedicated time to connect with peers, exchange insights, and strengthen educational practices in support of high-quality medical training.

2026 White Coat Ceremony

July 25 at 10:00 A.M., the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine hosts the 2026 White Coat Ceremony and welcomes the incoming Class of 2030 as they don their white coats, a symbol of their position as medical students. They will take the stage and pledge their oaths at the outset of their incredible journey through post graduate studies. The entire College is filled with pride and excitement for the Class of 2030 on this momentous occasion.
