Quinn Valier, Ph.D.
Quinn Valier, Ph.D., is an adjunct professor in the Department of Health Systems and Population Health Sciences in the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine. She teaches classes in the history and philosophy of science, technology and medicine, and humanities and public health.
Valier is also the director of the health humanities program at the Honors College at the University of Houston. In addition to teaching upper-division classes, she supervises independent study projects and senior Honors theses.
Winner of several teaching awards, she has taught extensively on the history of health and disease in both the UK and the US. She is also an active researcher and writer, and received the 2018 McGovern Award for Excellence in Biomedical Communication from the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA), Southwest Chapter, for her recent book, Cancer, Men, and Medicine: A History of Prostate Cancer (Palgrave, 2016).
Valier is a frequent contributor to local public media, including appearances on KUHF’s Houston Matters and PBS Channel 8’s Manor of Speaking.
Born and raised in the UK, Valier holds an undergraduate degree in biological sciences from the University of Cambridge. She earned her master’s degree and her doctorate in the history of medicine from the University of Manchester.
