Michelle A. Carroll Turpin, Ph.D.

Michelle A. Carroll Turpin, Ph.D., is the assistant dean of admissions and a clinical associate professor for the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine. She is responsible for teaching pharmacology, co-directs several pre-clerkship courses and serves on several Fertitta Family College of Medicine committees.

Turpin’s recent research focus has been on the prevention of iatrogenic opioid addiction through improved methods of patient education and medical student and physician training. She is also interested in the development of novel methods for teaching and reinforcing biomedical concepts throughout undergraduate medical education. Turpin is working enthusiastically with other faculty to develop a vigorous and dynamic, integrated curriculum that will prepare graduates for the challenges of residency and practice, while also cultivating a culture of student wellness, servant leadership and integrity.

Turpin earned a bachelor’s in biological sciences from Louisiana State University Shreveport and a Ph.D. in pharmacology, toxicology and neuroscience from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center – Shreveport (LSUHSC-S). Upon graduation from LSUHSC-S, she was hired as an assistant professor of pharmacology. She also served as co-director and director of the pre-clerkship curriculum of the LSU Health Shreveport School of Medicine, before joining the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine.
