M. Mahbub Hossain, M.D., M.P.H., Dr.P.H.

Mahbub Hossain, M.D., M.P.H., Dr.P.H., Presidential Frontier Faculty of Healthcare at the University of Houston, holds dual appointments. As an assistant professor in the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine’s Department of Health Systems and Population Health Sciences, he teaches evidence-based medicine, research methods, health policy, and health care leadership.

He is also an assistant professor in the Department of Decision and Information Science at the C.T. Bauer College of Business.

Hossain has academic and research expertise in health information systems, meta-research methods, mental health informatics, and evidence-based decision-making. His current research emphasizes evidence-based applications of digital health technologies to address psychosocial health disparities. He enjoys conducting interdisciplinary research and collaborating with scholars from diverse knowledge fields.

Before joining UH, Hossain served as an instructor at the Texas A&M University School of Public Health. Previously, he served as a health economist in India and conducted policy research on adolescent health and health systems. In addition, Hossain worked as a physician in underserved communities in Bangladesh, which inspired him to become an applied researcher investigating health inequities in populations.

He has published more than seventy scholarly articles and served as a reviewer in more than twenty-five scientific journals, including The Lancet.

Hossain earned his medical degree from Khulna Medical College, Bangladesh. He completed his Master of public health from Johns Hopkins University and his doctorate in public health from Texas A&M University.

He is committed to empowering health care leaders to address health disparities in marginalized communities in populations through evidence-based policymaking and practice.
