Jonas Garcia, M.D.

Jonas Garcia, M.D., is an adjunct clinical professor of internal medicine at the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine. He will be on clinical staff at the UH Health Family Care Center and is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Garcia will be involved in the clinical practice of medicine, continuing the follow up medical care of his long-time patients. He will also be a physician to the Family Care Center patient community and will provide cardiovascular medical care to the patients of the Harris County correctional facility.

During forty years in the private practice of internal medicine and medical cardiology, he was involved in the mentoring of medical students and residents and engaged in hospital leadership. Garcia served as chair of the department of internal medicine and chief of the medical staff at the HCA Healthcare Houston Medical Center. At Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, he was a member of the quality of care committee and for many years, chaired the ethics committee. He also served on the boards of the Harris County Medical Society and the Houston Academy of Medicine.

Garcia is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Arts cum laude in zoology. He graduated from The University of Texas Health Science Center Medical School at Houston, McGovern Medical School, and was conferred a doctor of medicine degree in 1978. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine and a fellowship in cardiovascular diseases at the Texas Hearth Institute, Baylor College of Medicine. Garcia has published several articles and is a member of local, state and national professional societies.
