Who is eligible for CAMP?

Students who worked or have a family member who worked at least 75 days in the last two years in agriculture as a migrant or seasonal/temporary worker. Also, see eligibility.

Do I have to be an incoming freshman?

The goal of the CAMP scholarship is to provide support to first year students. Students who transfer from another educational institution who have not yet earned 30 college credits and maintain a GPA or 2.5 or higher may also apply.

Do I have to stay in CAMP for one year?

Once you are awarded the CAMP scholarship and you accept it, you commit to be part of the CAMP program for one academic year (fall and spring).

Do I have to be a full-time student?

Yes, you must be a full-time student at the University of Houston main campus.

Do I have to take the SAT or ACT exams?

We are currently test optional. Students have the option to apply for admission with or without a test score for the following academic terms: spring 2024, summer 2024 and fall 2024. Please see the UH admissions page for more information. 

Do I have to choose an academic department or major at the time of application?

If you have not decided on a career path or an academic college to join, you may select Exploratory Studies upon applying to the University of Houston and to the CAMP scholarship.

What are the application steps?

You must complete the following steps:

  • Apply for FAFSA
  • Apply to the University of Houston and submit all the required documents
  • Apply to UH CAMP and submit all the required documents

I am a U.S. legal resident, but my parents are not, can I still apply?

Student must be a U.S. legal permanent resident or a U.S. citizen to apply for CAMP scholarship. This requirement does not extend to parents.

What are some of the benefits of CAMP?

How do I pay for school?

You may apply for other University of Houston scholarships and grants:

  • Academic college, extracurricular activities, student organizations, demographics
  • Cougar Promise
  • UHin4

You also may apply for: 

  • On campus on-campus jobs and work-study opportunities (part-time)
  • Other scholarships, including the Texas Migrant Education Scholarship

All of the above have strict deadlines, so make sure you apply on time. 

What if I already have another scholarship?

You may accept or have other scholarships in addition to CAMP so long as they are for attendance at the University of Houston.

Do I have to live on campus?

CAMP scholarship includes housing, which will cover a freshman double dorm room in Cougar Village II, for one year.

How do I pay for food and where can I eat?

The CAMP scholarship includes the Silver Meal Plan, which allows unlimited entry into the Residential Dining Commons and allows 3 meal exchanges per week and is accessible 24/7, for one year.

Do I have to work or find a job to remain eligible?

You may work part-time inside or outside campus; however, you are not required to work to remain eligible.

Are there any requirements once I am in the program?

Yes, once you accept the scholarship you will sign an agreement to meet the following requirements:

  • Maintain at least a 2.5 GPA
  • Follow all university policies and regulations
  • Attend study halls, office hours, and workshops throughout the semester
  • Meet with student mentors, staff, and professor/TA
