Schedule an advising appointment

Meet with your academic advisor to ensure you are on the right path towards your degree. Here are some questions to ask during the meeting:

• How far along am I in my degree plan?
• Do I need to take a class this summer to graduate in four years?
• Does my degree require a minor, a capstone, or a foreign language?

Seek help if strugglining

Do not hesitate to ask for help if you need it. Various support services are available on campus:

• A counselor in CAPS if you are feeling overwhelmed
• An advisor for academic issues
• Student Accessibility Center
• LAUNCH, SEP, the Writing Center, CASA, and ACS for tutoring services
• Office of Retention and Graduation Initiatives (RGI) for barriers affecting your progression

Understand your finances

Money can play a crucial role in your well-being and academic performance. Who can you talk to at UH about your finances?

• Office of Scholarship and Financial Aid for help with grants, loans, scholarships and employment
• UH Financial Literacy for budgeting, credit, student loans, or other money matters
• Scholarship Universe for both UH scholarships and external scholarships
• Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) beginning in October for the next academic year

Professional development

Start thinking about your resume and professional experiences during your second year. Schedule a meeting with a Career Counselor and ask the following questions:

• What should I include on my resume? 
• How do I write a professional email?
• Where do I begin if I want an internship?
