The First Year Team works collaboratively across the institution to provide new students with the academic and social resources needed to successfully transition to college life and progress towards degree completion.

Embarking on your college journey is an exciting step! Our First Year Team works closely with first time in college students before and during their first year to help students identify support, get connected and settle in at the University of Houston as they progress to their second year. We combine the use of actionable, just-time data with targeted student outreach to assist the University in achieving its student success goals. We strive to remove individual and institutional barriers for students to progress towards graduation.

Initiatives

Through one-to-one student contact with our PALS and a data-driven case management model, our office focuses on improving the retention of our first-year students. We empower and connect students to campus resources to improve their academic, mental, social, and emotional well-being.
