ACE Personal Trainer Exam Prep Course

Taking the American Council on Exercise (ACE) Certification Preparation Course is the first step to becoming a certified personal trainer. Balancing foundation knowledge and practical skill, this course will prepare you to become a Personal Trainer with Campus Recreation and take your certification exam. Exam cost is NOT included in this course or does not guarantee passing the exam. Register at myrec.uh.edu

  • June 20 -July 20, 2022
  • Mondays and Wednesday
  • 3:00 - 6:00 pm
  • $175 for class and books
  • $45 class only
  • 8-week course

Participants will be prepared to work with Campus Recreation as a Personal Trainer at the conclusion of the course.

Fitness Instructor Auditions

The Fitness Program at Campus Recreation is looking for enthusiastic group fitness instructors! Experience is preferred but not required. Develop a 10-minute group fitness class of your choice and start your part-time fitness career with us.

  • July 21 - 4:00 - 6:00pm
  • July 22 - 11:00am - 1:00pm
  • July 28 - 4:00 - 6:00pm
  • July 29 - 11:00am - 1:00pm

If you can not attend in-person auditions, please submit a video audition and 45-minute workout for each format you would like to audition for by Sunday, July 31, 2002, by midnight CST. Note: Video submissions are not required for cycling, F45, and aqua group fitness.

Fitness Professional Interests Meeting

Interested in becoming a Group Fitness Instructor or Personal Trainer? Join us for an interest meeting to learn how to become an instructor or trainer and how you can work for Campus Recreation during this process. 

Fitness Instructor Training

Interested in leading group fitness classes but don't know where to start? Join us monthly to learn how to teach different fitness formats: 

  • September 23 - The basics of teaching group fitness. This will prepare you to teach a variety of formats and eventually get certified as a general group fitness instructor. 
  • October 21 - How to instruct dance fitness classes. This will prepare you to create and follow choreography and teach workouts to the beat of the music. This workshop will help you learn how to get certified in dance formats such as Zumba. 
  • November 18 - Form and technique for strength and interval-based classes. This will prepare you to teach classes using weights and intervals to elevate heart rate. This workshop will help you learn how to get certified as a general group fitness instructor.
