Tips for Personal Emergency Plans

Emergency Preparedness 101 Video
  • Step One: Have a communication plan.
    • Keep a printed list of important emails and phone numbers in case your phone gets wet or damaged
    • Sign up for City of Houston media feeds in case you leave campus during an emergency
  • Step Two: Have an escape plan.
    • Know multiple exits from your building
    • Learn alternate roads in and out of campus
  • Step Three: Know your shelter plan and keep an up-to-date emergency preparedness kit.
    • Have a "Go Bag" ready for emergency relocations. Think about what you would need on a three-day trip...Identification, medications, change of clothes, phone charger, snacks and water bottle, first-aid items, etc. Don't make it bigger or heavier than you can grab and go easily.
    • Know the "Shelter-in-Place" locations for your building.
