How to Apply to the Master's Program in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Houston

The department of communication sciences and disorders at the University of Houston uses CollegeNet for the processing of graduate applications. Once a CollegeNet account is created, applicants may submit an application, review a submitted application, and access post-submission functionality. Before creating an account, please review the application requirements. 

To complete the application process, prospective students will need to provide the following:

  1. Clearly scanned copies of official transcriptsfrom each college or university from which the applicant received course credit, even if past coursework appears on a later transcript.
    • Copies of official transcripts may be uploaded into CollegeNet.
    • If the applicant is accepted, they must send all official transcripts to the graduate school.
  2. Three letters of recommendation
    • CollegeNet will prompt applicant’s to provide the names and email addresses of recommenders. Once the applicant submits that information, the CollegeNet system will send an automated email to the recommenders with instructions on how to submit letters.
  3. An updated résumé
    • There will be a prompt in CollegeNet that will allow applicants to upload their résumé.
  4. A personal statement of interest and answers to two questions
    • The applicant’s personal statement should include a response to the following prompt:
      In your statement, tell us why you will be successful in graduate school. Reflect and share information about your skills, traits, previous experiences, and/or past challenges. Also tell us the factors (other than academic coursework) that have shaped your readiness for a graduate program.
    • CollegeNet will prompt applicants to upload their personal statement. The statement must not exceed two double-spaced pages.

    • CollegeNet will prompt applicants to answer several supplemental questions. These include the two questions listed below:

      1. Did you take part in leadership, research, or volunteer/work opportunities? If so, please describe and indicate how it affected your understanding of communication sciences and disorders.

      2. What aspect of the UH COMD MA program excites you the most?

5. An application fee of $50. This fee should be paid online during the application process.

The CollegeNet Application must be completed by January 15, 2024. Incomplete applications will not be considered in the admissions process. 

Decision letters will be sent out by the department in mid-March.

International Applicants Only

In addition to the materials listed above, the international admissions office requires that you submit the following:

  • TOEFL scores: One official copy
  • A letter of financial backing
  • The Statement of Understanding located in the application
  • Two passport-sized photos 
  • An $80 application fee
