Prospective Students

The University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work, educates professionals for social work practice, research and leadership. We advocate for innovative, collaborative, inclusive policies and solutions that promote social, racial, economic and political justice. Our college generates new knowledge through critical thinking that links rigorous scientific inquiry with evidence-supported interventions.

We seek applicants possessing knowledge of and commitment to the social work profession, readiness to participate in rigorous academic and practicum work, willingness to build self-awareness and openness to learning and working with diverse groups of people.

Admission at the Graduate College of Social Work is available to students:

  • Seeking the MSW degree
  • Transferring to the MSW degree from another accredited MSW program
  • Seeking Advanced Standing status within the MSW degree (for applicants with a BSW degree)
  • Seeking a PhD in Social Work
  • Seeking the nationally recognized Nonprofit Leadership Alliance certificate
