Academics

The University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work (GCSW) is a nationally recognized program offering MSW and PhD degrees. The GCSW prepares diverse leaders in practice and research to address complex challenges through exceptional education, innovative research, and meaningful community engagement.

A bold vision, to achieve social, racial, economic, and political justice, local to global, shapes every aspect of the College, from what students learn in the classroom, to the research we engage in, to the events and partnerships we curate that amplify community conversations and engagement on social justice issues. The GCSW has established relationships with agencies throughout Houston and surrounding areas and counts a significant number of leaders in service agencies among its alumni. It offers one of the country’s only Political Social Work programs and an Abolitionist Focused Learning Opportunity. In the classroom and through research, we are committed to challenging systems and reimagining ways to achieve justice and liberation.
