University Commencement Frequently Asked Questions:

Commencement ceremonies for Spring 2025 graduation candidates will take place May 7 - 10, 2025. A schedule has been published to the commencement webpage.  

Yes. Each college will hold its own commencement ceremony. Due to the number of participants, some college ceremonies may be combined. 

Tickets will be required for all University Commencement ceremonies. Each candidate for graduation will be emailed a link to download six (6) electronic tickets prior to their ceremony. Graduates themselves will not require a ticket. Children two (2) years of age and younger will not require tickets. Tickets are ceremony-specific and may only be used for the ceremony displayed on the ticket.

All commencement tickets are complimentary, and any unused tickets should be returned to the commencement ticket pool. The selling of commencement tickets is not condoned by the University and could constitute a violation of the Student Code of Conduct. Failure to comply with this directive will result in a referral to the Dean of Students Office.

Yes, all ceremonies will be live-streamed.

Absolutely! Anywhere they can access the internet, they will be able to watch the ceremony. The video recording will also be available afterwards for those who missed it the first time or who would like to view it again.

The regular filing period for Spring 2025 graduation is November 4, 2024 - February 21, 2025.

The deadline for late filing is March 21, 2025.

It takes approximately 6 to 8 weeks from the close of the term for colleges to review graduation applications and submit their decisions to the registrar’s office for processing. Diplomas are ordered once students have been approved and degrees officially conferred and posted.

Your diploma will be mailed directly to you at the most current address provided through your myUH student account. The diploma printing company also will send email notifications to you indicating when your diploma has been mailed. It’s important to keep contact information updated in myUH to avoid shipment delays.

Yes. Graduation candidates wishing to participate in commencement ceremonies must wear regalia.

The University of Houston Bookstore will hold a "Grad Fair" March 3rd and 4th 2025 from 10am - 4pm at the UH Campus Store in the Student Center South. Regalia orders can be placed in person at this time.

A "Graduation Celebration" will be held at the UH Campus Store on Thursday, April 10, 2025 from 10am – 4 pm.

Once commencement is over, you can return your rental doctoral gowns at the collection bins located in the event venues or you may return them directly to the UH Campus Store.

Flash Photography is the official photographer for the University of Houston commencement ceremonies. After the ceremony, Flash Photography will send proofs to you so that you can decide if you want to order prints. The photographer will already have your mailing address. If you do not receive the proofs within 30 days of your commencement, please contact Flash Photography at 800-410-8070.
