Faculty Equipment
The University encourages the sharing of equipment that is housed in individual faculty labs. The sharing policy follows that of equipment purchased from federal awards.
Equipment from Federal Awards
For equipment purchased on federal awards, during the time that equipment is used on the project or program for which it was acquired, UH will make equipment available for use on other projects or programs currently or previously supported by the federal government, provided that such use will not interfere with the work on the projects or program for which it was originally acquired.
First preference for other use will be given to other programs or projects supported by the federal awarding agency that financed the equipment, and second preference will be given to programs or projects under Federal awards from other Federal awarding agencies. Use for non-federally funded programs or projects is permissible by the federal government and strongly encouraged provided it does not interfere with the project for which it was acquired. User fees should be considered if appropriate.

OTHER SOURCES
Equipment that was purchased with funding from sources other than federal awards (e.g., start-up funds or internal awards for equipment) follow a similar policy: UH will make the equipment available for use on other projects or programs, provided that such use will not interfere with the work on the projects or program for which it was originally acquired. User fees should be considered if appropriate.
Find Equipment
Through the PI Portal, faculty have access to a searchable list of research equipment. User fees should be considered if appropriate. Billing fees need to be developed and approved prior to charging user fees. Instructions on how to develop such fees can be found in the SAM 03.A.32 Specialized Service Facilities.
