Xuefei Liu

PIANO

 

Praised as a “musician with wonderful communicative and expressive quality,” Xuefei Liu is a Chinese concert pianist. Liu performs solo recitals and chamber music concerts throughout the United States and Asia. An active chamber musician, Liu has worked with the National Music Festival Orchestra, Richard Rosenberg, Gary Smart, the Modigliani Quartet, Andrzej Grabiec, Jon Klibonoff and Gerald Robbins. She is a member of the Irida Piano Trio based in Houston, Texas with American violinist Brian Howe and Greek cellist Eirini Barouta.

Liu has numerous award recognitions, including the grand-prize of the International Nice Côte d’Azur Piano Competition, third place in Concours International de piano de la Ville de Gagny and an alternate in the southwest division of the MTNA Young Artist Piano Competition.

Liu has participated at the International Piano Festival at the University of Houston and the Summit Music Festival. She has studied with renowned instructors including Asaf Zohar, Abbey Simon, and Arkady Aronov. She has also worked with William Wolfram, Anton Nel, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, and Gabriel Tacchino. She has been described by these musicians as “an artist with electrical energy, tonal blossoming in so many colors and timbers and spiritual depth.” Liu appeared at the National Music Festival in Chestertown, Maryland in summer 2018.

Liu received her Bachelor of Music at the Eastern New Mexico University with Dr. John Olsen and her master’s at the Manhattan School of Music, studying with André-Michel Schub.

As a passionate teacher and active outreach musician, Liu has taught group piano classes at the University of Houston and performed in outreach school concerts in Houston through MD Anderson Cancer Center and Houston Methodist Hospital. She is currently a faculty member at the American Festival of Arts in Houston. Liu has previously been a faculty member at the Brooklyn Musical Arts and the 88 Keys of New York in New York City.

Liu is now pursuing her Doctor of Music in piano performance with a minor in piano pedagogy at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music with Dr. Tali Morgulis.
