EH23: Laser Safety Training

Course Description: Instructor-led training.  This course covers fundamental properties of lasers and laser safety, laser design, laser classification and hazards, non-beam hazards, biological effects, safety practices, administrative and engineering controls, personal protective equipment, common accidents and emergency procedures, orientation to University safety policies and the Texas Department of State Health Services radiation regulations.

Who should take it: Required for all Principal Investigators and Authorized Users prior to work with Class 3b or 4 lasers at University of Houston.

Prerequisites: EH06-GENERAL LABORATORY SAFETY & HAZARDOUS MATERIALS ORIENTATION

Estimated Course Duration: 3 hours

Frequency: One time Only.

Please Note: After this initial training, EH23W (Refresher Training) is required annually for all Class 3B and 4 laser users/operators.
