EH12: Biological Safety

Course Description: Instructor-led Training. This is a required instructor led course that focuses on safety guidelines and procedures for working with biohazardous materials, recombinant, synthetic DNA molecules, and blood borne pathogens. Contents for this course will also include the role of the IBC (Institutional Biosafety Committee) and associated policies, biological safety levels, containment equipment, working with laboratory animals, shipping infectious & diagnostic substances, biological waste management, incident reporting and spill cleanup.

Who Should Take It? Required for UH personnel including faculty, staff, students, and visitors prior to working with in biological laboratories which are classified at Biosafety Level 1 and Biosafety Level 2.

Prerequisites: EH06: GENERAL LABORATORY SAFETY & HAZARDOUS MATERIALS ORIENTATION

Estimated course duration: 1.5 hours

Frequency: One Time Only

Please Note:  After this course is completed, a mandatory follow-up Bloodborne Pathogens Refresher Training is required annually.
