UH College of Education Experts Present at National Higher Education Conference

Portland OregonPosted Nov. 8, 2019 –  Experts from the University of Houston College of Education shared their research on admissions, mentorship, community colleges and more at the 2019 Association for the Study of Higher Education conference in Portland.

“ASHE provides an opportunity for our faculty and students to share critical research with our disciplinary colleagues and with policymakers," said Cathy Horn, chair of the College’s Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Studies and a professor of higher education. "The work being produced at the University of Houston is important and useful to decisions that impact all students and their success.”

This year's theme, "The Will to Reimagine the Study of Higher Education," resonated strongly with Elsa Gonzalez, co-director of the College's Ph.D. in higher education program and director of the M.Ed. in higher education online program. Her research team has studied the concept of "serving" in a federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution such as UH.

"With UH being one of the unique systems in the whole country where all entities are HSIs, it's of deep importance not to miss the role that our institution plays in the theme of this year's conference," she said.
