Joseph Nogee, professor emeritus of political science, and his wife, Jo Nogee, have established The Jyle Nogee Graduate Studies Endowment in Political Science. The endowment supports scholarships for graduate students within the Department of Political Science.

“The Nogee Endowment allows us to attract students we might not get but for the generosity of the Nogee family,” said Kent Tedin, interim chair of the Department of Political Science.

Professor Nogee taught international relations at UH for 40 years. He also served as chair of the Department of Political Science and led the effort to establish a doctoral program. Nogee and his wife created the endowment as a memorial to their late son, Jyle Engle Nogee, who received his B.A. in drama from the University of Houston. In 2018, the inaugural Nogee scholarship was awarded to first-year doctoral student Jamie Wright.

“The money means a lot,” Wright said. “But beyond that, the confidence in me means more.”
