Celebrating Commencement 2013

The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences saluted the success of its Spring 2013 graduates during two Commencement ceremonies on May 10, 2013.

CLASS welcomed at its morning exercises Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Houston), who gave brief remarks acknowledging the magnitude of the occasion for each graduate and his or her family members.

At the afternoon ceremony, CLASS alumnus Dennis Quaid was honored with a President’s Medallion bestowed by Chancellor and President Renu Khator for his creative contributions as an actor and his works with several children’s charities.

“If it wasn’t for UH, I wouldn’t be where I am,” said Quaid, who was accepted to the university as a drama major in 1973. “I would not have had the career and the opportunity that I’ve had in life, because it was here that I got all the tools to go out and achieve a dream."

Nine CLASS undergraduates accomplished their goal of completing their studies with 4.0 cumulative grade point averages. The College wishes all of its alumni – and, in particular, its newest alums – continued success in all their future endeavors.
