Dance leader wins award for video promoting youth dance education

A video created by Karen Stokes, the Head of the UH Dance Division in the School of Theatre & Dance, has won the Video of the Month Award from Dance Teacher Magazine.

The video, now on YouTube, is embedded here.

The video promotes the Framing Dance Discovery Series Program, which Stokes participates in with Travesty Dance Group/Houston in partnership with the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts and Young Audiences of Houston with support from the Houston Endowment. The program includes an interactive performance field trip for students in the region, a 25-page curriculum packet for educators, and in-school workshops.

The next Framing Dance will be Feb. 1-3, and will include an open to the public evening performance on Thursday, Feb. 3. The award winning sister program, Around the World with Musiqa, has performances set for Oct. 26-29. Programs are free to students, with school buses provided.
