Student Auditor Procedure

Definition

Auditing a course is attending and/or participating in a course without receiving course credit or a grade. An individual may audit an online, hybrid or face-to-face course.

Students auditing courses will pay the regular tuition and fees.

Procedure

These steps need to be followed in order for Student Auditors to be granted access to Canvas.

Current UH Students and Employees

1. Obtain and complete the Audit Application Form from the Office of the Dean of the College.

2. Submit the Audit Application Form to the Dean of the College for approval.

Complete the following steps when approved.

3. Student Auditor makes payment or obtains fee waiver at Welcome Center Bursar's office.

4. Submit receipt to the Dean of the College.

5. Inform canvas@uh.edu of Student Auditor's PeopleSoft ID and CougarNet ID, as well as the course and section into which to enroll the Student Auditor.

6. The Canvas support team processes the information with the result of the Student Auditor being enrolled in the course.

7. The Canvas account team informs Student Auditor and college or department of how to access Canvas, including username and password format.

Non-UH Student Monitor Applicant

1. Obtain and complete the Audit Application Form from the Office of the Dean of the College.

2. Submit the Audit Application Form to the Dean of the College for approval.

Complete the following steps when approved.

3. Student Auditor makes payment or obtains fee waiver at Welcome Center Bursar's office.

4. Submit receipt to the Dean of the College.

5. College or Department Business Office creates a  POI (Person of Interest) form for the Student Auditor using the online  ePOI Form.

For "ePOI SERVICE" on page 2 of the form, select "Other Students-Non UHS (expires in 1 year, see Note C)". Do not select "Auditors." An incorrect form will introduce a delay into the process.

6. Submit POI.

7. After POI is processed, inform canvas@uh.edu of Student Auditor's PeopleSoft ID and CougarNet ID, as well as the course and section into which to enroll the Student Auditor.

8. The Canvas support team processes the information with the result of the Student Auditor being enrolled in the course.

9. The Canvas account team informs Student Auditor and college or department of how to access Canvas, including username and password format.
