Canvas Procedures

  • Canvas/Teams Courses
    • Canvas/Teams Courses must be requested by the instructor or their designee each semester.
    • Teams course must be activated by the instructor once requested.
    • Instructions for requesting a Canvas/Teams courses.
    • Student Access
      • Students will have access to the course until 10-14 days after the session closes.
  • Student Enrollments
    • Students are loaded into their courses 5-7 days before the first day of classes
      • Drops and additions are performed within 24 hours during the semester based on the Student Information System (Peoplesoft)
  • Incomplete Grades 
    • Requests made before June 1: 
      • Work due before June 1 can be completed in Bb. 
      • Work due after June 1 must be completed in Canvas or through an alternate arrangement to determined by the instructor.
    • Blackboard (To be completed in Blackboard)
      • Student must have an "I" 
      • Send request to canvas@uh.edu
        • Include course, section, student information
      • Must be completed by June 1, 2023
    • Canvas
      • Student must have an "I" 
      • Send request to canvas@uh.edu
        • Include course, section, student information
      • Bb course will be copied to Canvas
        • Content, assignments, exams will be copied to Canvas
        • No student data will be copied (Grades, submissions)
    • Alternative arrangements are the exclusive responsibility of the instructor.
  • Integration Requests
    • Only faculty requests are accepted.
      • Vendors cannot request an integration.
    • Vendors must be TXRAMP Certified (Required by Texas State Law).
    • Integration must be for more than one instructor or one course.
      • Exceptions made for very large courses or multiple sections.
    • Complete Hosted Services Checklist
      • Complete through the certification checklist on the form.
      • UH Information Security will complete balance of form.
    • Submit Checklist to canvas@uh.edu
      • UH Information Security will perform a review and notify Canvas Admins.
      • The requestor will be informed of the final decision.
      • The vetting process can take several weeks.
    • IMPORTANT
      • The Canvas Academic and Technical Teams will work with the vendor and business owner to install and test the LTI. Upon final approval by the vendor and the business owner, the business owner assumes responsibility for training and support.
