College Governance

The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences is committed to the concept of shared governance. Faculty and administration are mutually interested in the welfare of the College, and they share in oversight of many aspects of college life.

Standing Committees of the College:

Chairs and Directors Committee

Faculty Governance and Advisory Committee

  • One representative from each department or school, serving two-year terms
  • Chair, Kia JohnsonAssociate Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders

Graduate Affairs Committee

  • One representative from each department or school
  • Convener: Ann Christensen, Department Chair and Professor of English

Grievance Committee

  • Seven tenured faculty members, elected by the whole CLASS faculty, serving two-year terms
  • Chair: elected from the current membership

Promotion and Tenure Committee

  • Seven members, chosen on rotating basis from the departments and schools, serving two-year terms
  • Chair: elected from the current membership

Research and Scholarship Committee

  • Five members, chosen on rotating basis from the departments and schools, for two-year staggered terms
  • Convener: Anadeli Bencomo, Professor of Hispanic Studies

Undergraduate Studies Committee

  • One representative from each department or school
