SMS Texting Service
How it works and how do I opt-in?
To use the UHPD texting service you must opt-in to the service. You do this by using the service. When you send a text message to 713-743-3333 your message will pop-up in a centralized dashboard at UHPD dispatch and be directed to an officer. The dashboard will allow the UHPD officer to communicate with you directly through the SMS texting service on your phone. When your case has been resolved by the officer, the case will be closed and you will receive a verification that it has been resolved. When the case is closed UHPD will no longer be able to send you text messages. If you need to get a hold of them again you can just send a new text message to 713-743-3333.By sending a text message to 713-743-3333 you are opting in. UHPD will never send messages to you without you first starting the conversation. This service will NOT to be used for sending any bulk emergency communications as that is a separate service (https://alerts.uh.edu/faqs/).
What is the Opt-out policy?
You can opt-out of the service but if you do UHPD will never see your message and they will not be able to respond to you in an emergency. We do not recommend opting out. If you do decide you want to opt-out, you can send a text message to 713-743-3333 with the word “STOP” or “UNSUBSCRIBE” in it.We do not recommend anyone opting out. If you think you may have done this by accident or want to restart this service, you opt-in again by texting “START” to 713-743-3333.
