Parking and Transportation Services Earns International Accreditation

University of Houston Parking and Transportation Services has been designated an Accredited Parking Organization (APO) by the International Parking and Mobility Institute (IPMI), a milestone that only 44 parking programs have reached.

IPMI is the world's largest association of parking, transportation and mobility professionals and uses professional development, research and data collection, advocacy and outreach to advance the parking and mobility profession.

APO is a designation for parking, transportation and mobility organizations that have achieved a comprehensive standard of excellence. The APO program was launched in 2015 by IPMI for organizations that have achieved a comprehensive standard of excellence. The 44 groups who have attained the designation represent less than 10% of all IPMI members.

According to the IPMI website, "the accreditation recognizes best practices in responsible parking management and operations, access management, customer service, professional development, security, sustainability and more."

To become an APO, an organization must demonstrate its commitment to ongoing evaluation and improvement of program outcomes through the implementation of industry best practices. The APO with Distinction designation is reserved for organizations exceeding the standard. Parking and Transportation Services is working to achieve that designation in 2025.

"The APO designation not only elevates Parking and Transportation Services' industry-wide recognition and credibility but also bolsters our unwavering commitment to fostering a welcoming parking environment for students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors alike," said Neil Hart, assistant vice president of Parking and Transportation Services.

Parking and Transportation Services will be honored at the 2024 IPMI Parking & Mobility Conference and Expo, which will be held June 9-12, 2024, in Columbus, Ohio.
