Google Scholar Profile

While he no longer conducts basic research, Dr. Chad Wayne still maintains a strong interest in human reproductive biology. His primary interest in this field is concerned with the molecular mechanisms of gametogenesis; particularly, the signaling pathways through the gonadotropins that govern folliculogenesis and ovulation in the female and the signaling pathways and molecules that govern the meiotic stage of spermatogenesis and spermiogenesis in the male. While these processes are unique to their respective sexes, they share many similar mechanisms and serve as excellent models to demonstrate multiple biological functions.

In the classroom, Dr. Wayne is interested in understanding and developing pedagogical techniques that improve student performance and retention. To this end, he has been exploring low stake techniques to help students improve their understanding of the material they encounter in his classes. In his lower level courses, he tries to teach material engagement and studying techniques that will help students throughout their academic careers. In upper level courses, he tries to further develop students’ critical thinking skills and improve their writing skills through the scientific literature and peer-review assessment. His long-term goal is to identify and apply the best pedagogical techniques in the classroom to achieve greater long-term student success.
