Hispanic Serving Institution Day

Celebremos! Join us on September 17, 2025 for our inaugural Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Day Celebration!  The 2025 HSI Day Celebration is an opportunity for the UH Community to celebrate the HSI designation, academic excellence, and Hispanic culture. Campus departments and student organizations from across campus have assembled a wonderful series of events for you to attend.

Hispanic-Serving Institutions:

Definition: A Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) is defined as an institution of higher education that-
  • is an eligible institution; and
  • has an enrollment of undergraduate full-time equivalent students that is at least 25 percent Hispanic students at the end of the award year immediately preceding the date of application.
University of Houston facts: University of Houston is 33.6% Hispanic and became a Hispanic Serving Institution in 2012. 
 

HSI Programming: Fall 2025

Wednesday, September 17 — HSI Day Celebration (11 AM – 2 PM, Student Center South Houston Room)
Celebrate UH’s designation as a Hispanic-Serving Institution with food, music, and culture! Enjoy a lively carnival atmosphere with cultural performances, a resource fair, gallery exhibits, and bilingual student voices.


Thursday, September 18 — HSI Together Thursday (9 AM – 11 AM, Student Center North Lounge)

Start your morning with community! Join us for a celebratory breakfast mixer that brings students, staff, and faculty together to honor UH’s HSI commitment.


Thursday, September 18 — HSI Movie Night (5:30 PM – 8:30 PM, Student Center South Ballrooms)

Unwind with students from across campus at a fun and relaxing movie night featuring snacks and community connection.
