My name is Safia Aslam Chaudhary (she/her/hers). I am from New Delhi, India. I moved to Houston, Texas last year to pursue my Master’s in Social Work’24 from the Graduate College of Social Work here at UH. I completed my Bachelor's in English Literature from University of Delhi in 2019 and Master’s in Development Studies from Ambedkar University Delhi in 2021.

I got introduced to the world of social impact and community welfare through the National Service Scheme in India. I volunteered as a teacher at two non-profits and had a rewarding experience working with children. In 2018, I got selected to volunteer at the largest prison complex in South Asia, Tihar Prison. By using psychodrama therapy techniques, I worked to enhance the psychological, social, and spiritual well-being of female inmates. Simultaneously, I worked as a senior coordinator of The Equal Opportunity Cell in my college. I worked directly with students with disabilities to make the college campus accessible and inclusive and initiated communication for additional support needs.

As soon as I finished my undergraduate, I knew my interest lies in working with people, which had been my exploration in different ways. Now, I’m excited to work for the Center for Student Advocacy and Community as an Instructional Assistant. It gives me the opportunity to work with a diverse student population and serve/find the best resources available. Being an international student, I understand the dire need for support from the administration, thus it is a fulfilling experience to work on the same.
