University of Houston’s Panhellenic Council announces extension for a new chapter

September 16, 2013 - The Houston Panhellenic Council at the University of Houston voted to extend and open up their community for a new chapter on September 10, 2013. They hope be see a new National Panhellenic Conference organization colonize on campus no later than Fall 2015.

The 6 National Panhellenic Conference organizations currently on campus are Alpha Chi Omega, Chi Omega, Delta Gamma, Delta Zeta, Phi Mu and Zeta Tau Alpha. These 6 organizations came to the University of Houston in 1956 when national sororities were first authorized to come to the University of Houston. This is the first time since 1956 that the Houston Panhellenic Council has voted to open for Extension.  The Houston Panhellenic Council has seen considerable and continuous growth since Fall 2007. The council expects that they will continue to grow as the university continues to transition from a commuter campus to a Tier Once, destination university.

A committee is currently being put together in order to begin the process of determining which of the National Panhellenic Conference 26 member organizations would be the best fit for the University of Houston community.
