Karen is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and National Board Certified Counselor. She has more than 16 years of experience working with diverse clients in higher education, corporate, community, and private mental health agency settings. Karen is a career transitioner (from mechanical engineering to counseling) and she is energized by helping individuals experiencing stressors associated with career decisions, performance anxiety, life transitions and navigating change. Karen also specializes in supporting and empowering Houston’s LGBTQ+ community, persons living with chronic health conditions, individuals struggling with addiction, and students experiencing grief/loss, depression and family/friendship/relationship challenges. She has experience in conducting individual, group and couples counseling and has worked as a clinical case manager. She enjoys sharing community resources, supervising counseling students, mentoring new clinicians and conducting presentations on mental health and wellness topics. Karen utilizes a strengths-based, collaborative, empathic approach to counseling and strives to create a safe, supportive, inclusive space for all students.
