AAS 3348: African Americans and the Law
This course will study the historical and contemporary legal issues surrounding African Americans from slavery to present. U.S. Supreme Court decisions, the United States Constitution, Texas Constitution, federal and state law will be the framework for issues and themes explored. Topics to be discussed include education, affirmative action, miscegenation, employment discrimination, race-based jury selection, welfare, health care, Stand Your Ground laws, Jim Crow Laws and more. The course seeks to reproduce a law school environment and is designed for students with an interest in law, policy, history and those who desire to attend law school.
