UH TSI Course Exemptions

Students will demonstrate a TSI exemption with a passing grade in college-level coursework in a related field, either at UH, external transfer credit posted to the UH account, or by using AP exam scores, IB exam scores, or dual credit grades, as determined by the University of Houston. Courses that will demonstrate a TSI exemption in each respective area at the University of Houston are as follows:

Math Reading Writing

All college-level math courses;

Courses equivalent to the following UH courses:

  • ECON 3320: Introduction to Economic Data Analysis
  • INDE 2333: Engineering Statistics
  • QSS 2300: Statistical Concepts and Analysis
  • BUSI 2305: Business Statistics
  • PSYC 2317: Intro to Psychology Statistics

All college-level courses in the following disciplines:

  • Anthropology
  • Art history
  • English
  • Geography
  • History
  • Philosophy
  • Political science
  • Psychology
  • Sociology

All college-level English courses;

Note: The TSI Assessment adopted in 2021 combined Reading and Writing into one assessment, the English Language Arts (ELAR) category, so if you submit documentation for only Reading, you will still be required to take the entire ELAR TSIA2 assessment for the writing requirement.
