Challenger Program

The Challenger Program office is committed to your success. 

As the UH community puts into practice our plans to mitigate the COVID-19 outbreak, our office will begin serving students online only. The office in Student Service Center 1 will be closed to in-person traffic.

Here is how we will serve you in the coming days:

  • Status of operations: 
    • Continuing as usual:  regular messaging, updates via social media, and academic and financial aid support.
    • Postponed or moved to a teleconference: 2nd General Meeting, Community Service Projects, Annual Award Banquet, and all First Gen Coogs activities.
    • Information updated as we learn more: any changes to priority enrollment dates
  • What you can do now:
    • Your grades still matter! Learning from a distance can be more challenging than you think. Ensure you are as successful as you can be this term by Learning about learning online.
    • Monitor the UH COVID-19 response regularly.
    • Be a responsible community member! Stay inside and keep a 6-foot social distance buffer from others, eat healthy, exercise to keep the blood pumping to your brain, and wash your hands!

Welcome to the Challenger Program! Challenger is designed to assist students in every way possible to complete post-secondary education at the University of Houston.

The Challenger Program is a formally federally funded “Student Support Services” TRIO Project funded by the Department of Education.  The Challenger Program is now funded under Student Success Services. Established at the University of Houston in 1987, this program was designed to assist students who are primarily low-income and/or first-generation college students to complete their education at the University of Houston.  Student participants come from an array of backgrounds that cut across all ethnic/racial, gender, and socio-economic boundaries.
