Professor Anderson specializes in the sociology of health and illness, urban sociology, race/ethnicity, and organizations. Her work is generally focused on understanding the social sources of health disparities in the United States. In particular, she examines the role of race/ethnicity and urban neighborhood dynamics to analyze how these factors may affect individual health. Her recent work has also examined how these relate to flood vulnerability and risk perception. She chiefly employs quantitative statistical methods and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in her work.
