Heat Engine

Equipment:

  • Pasco computer-based laboratory system running Data Studio software
  • ILD experiment configuration files
  • Pressure sensor
  • Temperature sensor
  • 10-cc low friction glass syringe with ring stand support
  • Several lengths of Tygon tubing
  • 25-ml flask with one hole rubber stopper
  • 2 insulated (e.g.Styrofoam) containers (to use as reservoirs)
  • Ruler
  • 100g mass
  • Hot water (about 80-90 degree C)
  • Ice water

Equipment:

  • Computer-based laboratory system
  • ILD experiment configuration files
  • Temperature probe
  • Heat pulser (relay box and at least 200W immersion heater)
  • Room temperature water
  • Crushed ice and cold water in insulated (Styrofoam) cup
  • Water at 80 degree C (stored in thermos bottle)
  • Small Styrofoam cup in a larger glass beaker
  • Stirring rod
