NSM-IT's vision is to facilitate the acquisition and application of essential knowledge, skills, and tools through the provision of state-of-the-art technology services, business intelligence projects, and Instructional Support, for the faculty, staff, and students of the UH College of Natural Sciences & Mathematics.
Since its inception in 2002, NSM-IT efforts have attracted over $700,000 in external funding for the College. The funding provided equipment, application development and academic technologies that enhanced college-wide services for students, faculty and staff. The external sources of funding included: Apple, Hewlett Packard, Microsoft, IBM, Texas A&M University and UH offices outside of NSM.
NSM-IT has assisted faculty with their research and academic projects as well as grant presentations. Through the use of modern multimedia and 3D technology tools, grant presentations were given an edge over the competition. NSM-IT Staff have also published and presented numerous papers at national and international conferences, which helped attract attention to the college. In some cases these led to funding opportunities from other academic institutions and industry that benefited the college and the university as a whole.
NSM-IT continues to have ambitious plans to offer improved web and instructional tools for faculty and students with modern and up-to-date instructional design strategies, equipment and technologies in the next five years. NSM-IT's plans to replace and update multimedia services for faculty and students with modern and up-to-date EDTech equipment and communication technologies for teaching and learning such as 3D design, 3D scanning, 3D printing, virtual / extended reality and robotics will bring significantly improved college IT services for students, faculty and staff, setting the college up for continuous success.
