Department Initiates Student Research Funding Program


Three Students Receive Funding Awards for Fall 2021

The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences (EAS) started a new program this semester for students to apply for research funding directly, independent of their advisors.

Three students were recognized for their excellent proposals and received funding.

Recipients

Claire Ong (working with Dr. Qi Fu)

Proposal: "Analysis of PFAS in the Edwards Aquifer, San Antonio"
Award: $2,000

Nicole Arellano (working with Dr. Emily Beverly)

Proposal: "Characterization of Triple Oxygen Isotopes in Panama to Understand Precipitation Dynamics"
Award: $2,000

Xiaolong Wei (working with Dr. Jiajia Sun)

Proposal: "Uncertainty Analysis of Geophysical Inversions Conditioned on Spatial Distributions of Geologic Units"
Award: $1,000

Funding for these research grants has been made possible by the EAS department endowment. Proposals will be accepted again in January and another set of students recognized at that time.
