Event Provided Interaction with Professionals in Environmental Industry
Approximately 18 University of Houston Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences students and faculty member, Dr. Regina Capuano, attended 2018 GeoDayZ , February 24-25.
The event was organized by the Texas Chapter of the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG) and hosted by Hydrex Environmental in Nacogdoches, Texas. Student registration was generously paid for by AIPG-Texas and several company sponsors.
The event provided a great opportunity for students to interact with geoscientists and environmental scientists working in the environmental industry and to see what they do on the job. They watched demonstrations of hollow-stem auger drilling, monitor-well installation, direct-push sediment sampling, low-flow purge well-water sampling, geophysical-well logging, and drone surveying. They also attended lectures on Environmental-Project Management and Practices, Wetlands Geology, Storm-Water Monitoring and Phase I ESA, and Resistivity and GIS mapping.
Thanks to the generous sponsors who made this possible: Hydrex Environmental, XENCO Labs, Mount Sopris Instruments, American Plant Food Corp., Best Drilling, Southside Bank, 11x17 Inc., and Stephen F. Austin State University.
